According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), world power demands are expected to rise 60% by 2030. With the worldwide total of coal plants soaring, the IEA estimates that fossil fuels will account for 3/4th of the energy market by 2030. Fossil fuel, with coal in particular, contributes the most to global warming. Coal use alone is the largest producer of CO2, emitting close to 20 billion tons per year! Concerns about the environmental impact of burning coal puts power plants under mounting government pressure to reduce CO2 emissions over the next few years. Plants that do not comply with these regulations will be forced to retool or shutdown.  Furthermore, plants currently supplying power will risk non-renewal of their power purchase agreements. To meet these regulations, coal plants must replace coal with a fuel that does not produce any incremental CO2 emissions. Closing down coal plants altogether is a radical step, but 'sneaking' green energy into them may be a more practical and economical process…
